Tokujin Yoshioka crystallizes swan lake and rose


monumental crystallized artworks by japanese artist tokujin yoshioka, exhibited in all forms and facets make up the solo show ‘tokujin yoshioka – crystallize’, at museum of contemporary art tokyo. amongst the seven stranded, crystal ‘spider’s thread chair’ (which designboom has previously covered here) and the towering, chromatic architectural work ‘rainbow room’  (see designboom’s coverage here) are the painting ‘swan lake’, the sculptural work titled ‘the rose’,and the immersive installation ‘tornado’.

a mass of fine transparent strands makes up ‘tornado’ enveloping the viewers in a complex labyrinth, both advancing and obstructing them from the various gallery rooms.
